JCIPatientSafety.orgHospital Quality Directory

Corrections policy

Accuracy matters, especially for hospital quality data. This page explains what we can fix, what we can't, and how to report a problem.

How to report an error

  1. Email corrections@jcipatientsafety.org.
  2. Include the URL of the page in question.
  3. Describe what looks wrong and, if you can, link to the CMS source that shows the correct value.

We acknowledge every correction request within two business days and resolve confirmed errors within five business days of confirmation.

What we can fix

  • Presentation errors: broken links, typos, wrong labels, mis-mapped fields, layout bugs.
  • Cases where our page differs from the CMS Provider Data Catalog record we ingested.
  • Cases where a newer CMS release has published data we have not yet ingested - we will schedule the refresh.

What we can't fix directly

  • Disputes with the underlying CMS score. We mirror what CMS publishes and cannot change a hospital's star rating or measure score. Direct those disputes to CMS through the QualityNet reporting process; corrections will flow to us in the next CMS release.
  • Removal of a hospital from the directory. If a facility appears in the CMS Provider Data Catalog, it appears here. Closures propagate when CMS updates the catalog.

How we record corrections

When we fix an editorial page in response to a correction, we update the "Last reviewed" date at the bottom of that page. When a data refresh brings in a corrected value from CMS, the "Data as of" date on the hospital page changes automatically.
